How to Use GPX Files on Your Bike Computer

How to Use GPX Files on Your Bike Computer

When you unlock a route through Colpasso, you receive a personal link to download a GPX file — a standard GPS format that every major cycling computer and app understands. This guide shows you how to get that file onto your device and on the road.

How it works

After clicking your route link in the email, tap the GPX button on the route page. Your browser will download a .gpx file. What you do next depends on your device.

Every brand follows the same basic flow:

  1. Download the GPX file to your phone or computer.
  2. Transfer it to your device — either via USB cable, the brand’s companion app, or a web dashboard.
  3. Navigate to the route on your device and start riding.

Colpasso GPX files include turn-by-turn cue points for supported devices (Wahoo, Garmin, Hammerhead), so you will receive navigation prompts at the key turns.

Wahoo ELEMNT

  1. Open the Wahoo ELEMNT app on your phone.
  2. Tap Routes → the + icon → Import GPX File.
  3. Select the GPX file from your phone’s downloads folder.
  4. The route syncs to your ELEMNT automatically over Bluetooth.
  5. On your ELEMNT: swipe to Routes, select the route and press Go.

Garmin

Via Garmin Connect (recommended):

  1. Go to connect.garmin.com and sign in.
  2. Click Training & Planning → Courses → Import.
  3. Upload your GPX file. The course syncs automatically to your paired device via the Garmin Connect app on your phone.
  4. On your device: Navigation → Courses — select the route and press Go.

Via USB cable:

  1. Connect your Garmin to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Open the Garmin drive and navigate to the Courses (or NewFiles) folder.
  3. Copy the GPX file into that folder, then safely eject the device.

Hammerhead Karoo

  1. Go to hammerhead.io, sign in, and open Routes.
  2. Click Import Route and upload your GPX file.
  3. The route appears on your Karoo automatically the next time it syncs (keep it connected to Wi-Fi).
  4. On your Karoo: Routes → My Routes — select and navigate.

Alternatively, connect the Karoo via USB and transfer the file directly to the GPX folder.

Bryton

  1. Connect your Bryton computer to your computer via USB.
  2. Open the Bryton drive and copy the GPX file to the Course folder.
  3. Safely eject the device.
  4. On your Bryton: Training → Course — select the route and press Go.

You can also use the Bryton Active app: tap Me → Training Plan → Import and select your GPX file.

Strava

Strava is primarily for recording and analysing rides, but you can use a GPX as a route guide:

  1. Go to strava.com/routes and click Create Route.
  2. Use the Import GPX option to upload your file.
  3. Save the route and push it to your paired device via the Strava app if supported, or navigate to it via the Strava app on your phone during the ride.
